The basis for General Nutronics technology is its patented Wavelength Selective Switching (WSS) technology for switching and aggregating fiber optical channels using integrated parallel channel optoelectronics. In this way, multiple fiber channels are treated as a single channel.

The technology is extremely scalable and modular. Both CWDM and switching, as implemented by General Nutronics, scales incrementally with parallel modules. These modules allow practical scaling from Terabit CWDM to Petabit-class DWDM cross-connects, while retaining capabilities of conventional optical-electronic-optical devices.
